Sophie Sew Along Day 5 - YOU DID IT!

Posted by

Good morning and TGIF! It’s Day 5 of the Sophie Sew-A-Long and can I just say … HOORAY! I’m so excited about today’s blog post. I’m sad to see the fun come to an end, but I can’t wait to see everyone’s final photos of their completed dresses! Enough chatting for now, let’s get started.

Grab your finished bodice and your finished skirt. Now you have the main ingredients for completing today’s task. Here you are going to follow steps 33 through 35 of the pattern to complete the dress. You’ll want to turn your skirt inside out and turn your bodice upside down (right side out). Now slip the bodice into the skirt RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER! This is super important to double check otherwise you’ll be having a hot date with your trusty seam ripper. {I’ve done this myself on occasion.}

Time saving tip: match up side seams, as well as back seams with the skirt placket, and pin at each point. Then gather your skirt to the length of the front and back bodice pieces. It’s so much easier and faster to get the perfect gather!

Stitch all the way around and finish the seams. Now it’s time to flip your dress right side out and top stitch the seam. Finally, add your buttons.

Give yourself a pat on the back. You have just completed the Sophie Sew-A-Long! Hooray!

Make sure you head on over to the fan group and post your final photos in the Day 5 album because there is more fun in store! We’ll be voting this weekend for the fan favorite and on Monday, the winner of the Hawthorne Threads prize and pattern prizes will be announced!

Thank you for joining in the fun this week and thank you to Katie for letting me host this fun sew-a-long. It has been a real pleasure to sew with you!
